BGP community values in use

SpaceNet uses BGP community values to control routing announcements towards our customers, towards our upstreams and peerings.

Community settings that control SpaceNet BGP (5539:*) are only accepted from customers. Community values set by our upstreams, e.g. 1273:*, 3549:*, are accepted and forwarded to customers, but otherwise ignored. Incoming routes are tagged with communites that can be used to filter upon route origin:

BGP Community settings to control traffic in other networks, e.g. SpaceNet's upstream networks, are accepted and transparently forwarded to the upstream routers. So for special cases, 1273:*, 1299:*, 2914:* etc. can be used. Documentation for those communities can be found here:

If there is anything missing here that you (as a customer of AS5539) need to control your traffic flow, please contact bgp@space.net.
